The Toughest Lesson in Business

(And Football)

Last night, I took a brutal loss.

Not in business—but on the football field.

I coach multiple flag and tackle teams, including my two older sons’ 7th-grade squad. We’ve been grinding for months to be the best team possible. But last night, we lost 12-6. One for five in the red zone. A total heartbreaker.

I was pissed.

At myself. At the calls I made. At the rotations I didn’t change. At everything.

It was one of those nights where you start questioning everything.

Maybe you’ve felt this in business?

A deal you should have closed slips through the cracks. A key employee quits. A client ghosts you on an overdue invoice.

Losing sucks.

But this morning, I was back on the field.

Coaching. Teaching. Pushing kids to get better. And the sting of last night? Gone.

Because the only way forward is to keep chopping wood.

Business is the same way.

You take the loss. You feel the frustration. But you show up the next morning and get back to work. That’s the price of winning.

So if you’re dealing with setbacks right now—whether it’s hiring, sales, or cash flow—don’t stop.

Keep pushing. Keep showing up. Keep leading.

Because that’s how you win.

Best,

John
